Working Of Spectrum analyzer:

Actually, a spectrum analyzer can either be of the analog type, or of the digital nature. It is a very sensitive measuring equipment that works like a car radio since it can identify waveform frequencies though your radio can only distinguish radio waves and then utilizes a display to show these incoming frequencies to you.

Once received by the spectrum analyzer, the frequency signal is swept through a preselected set of frequencies. The selected frequency is then converted into a DC level, a logarithmic scale, that can be measured. It is also displayed on the Cathode Ray Tubes, where the y-axis contains the signal strength while the frequency is observed on the x-axis.

Types Of Spectrum analyzer:

  • A spectrum analyzer is one device that is usually used for the conversion of higher frequencies, often those that range up to 10s GHz (gigahertz).

  • It is an effective receiver that operates based on the “superheterodyne receiver principles.

  • The spectrum analyzer is mainly used in tandem with an RBW. The reason behind this is this instrument is used for measuring the strong signal only. Very weak signals or the signal weaker than the noise in the background are not detected by the analyzer.

  • In fact, RBW is one of the necessary factors in adopting or buying a spectrum analyzer.

Another specific function of a spectrum analyzer is the capability of measuring the frequency range. Here, it refers to the frequencies that you will be requiring to take the measurement.  The frequency ranges of the analyzer have ranged from 100 Hz to 50.
