Everything About Satellite Spectrum Analyzers

One of the most used testing equipment in various industries is satellite spectrum analyzer. A spectrum analyzer is simple equipment that is used to measure the strength of the signal. The signal is compared with the full signal range of the device. A spectrum analyzer is an invaluable testing device that is used for testing, maintaining and designing the radio frequency circuitry. According to the experts, the basic use of the spectrum analyzer is to measure the power of the known as well as unknown signals.

To people who are not well versed with the satellite spectrum analyzers, it might look like an oscilloscope. However, there is a huge amount of difference between the satellite spectrum analyzers and oscilloscope. An oscilloscope calculates the signals in the time domain while a satellite spectrum analyzers measure the signals in the frequency domain.

Types of spectrum analyzer:

Real-time
The real-time analyzers assemble the real-time bandwidth of the signals in a fixed time. The signals are always incoming. These analyzers convert the information using the FFT algorithm. The information from the signals is calculated in the real-time which means that there are no gaps in the information assembled.

FFT/ Fast Fourier transform
A Fast Fourier transform spectrum analyzer or an FFT analyzer. This analyzer has a unique way to assemble information from the signals. This particular analyzer needs the signal with a minimum of twice bandwidth.

Swept or superheterodyne
A superheterodyne or swept spectrum analyzer works when the signals have a small bandwidth. Small bandwidths give maximum spectral resolution and make sure that the information is properly filtered and analyzed accordingly.

Audio
The audio analyzers are wavelengths analyzers that are used by the sound engineers to make various frequencies audible to the human ears.

The satellite spectrum analyzers offer the tester opportunity to center, stop and start the frequency as they wish. The numerous kinds of analyzers in the market measure the signals in their own way.  Do you want to buy cost-effective and yet powerful satellite spectrum analyzer? Contact AVCOM. Guidelines On How To Make Use of a Satellite Spectrum Analyzer

Satellite spectrum analyzers are mostly used for tracking and observing signals. This intricate device is a crucial electronic test equipment which is utilized for maintaining the design and test pertaining to radio frequency circuits networks and equipment.
These devices play a major role in tracking and noting the signals in the frequency domain. Therefore, the main task of a satellite spectrum analyzer is to exhibit the amplitude of signals while measuring it on a vertical scale. The frequency of the signals is however measured on the horizontal scale. Taking into consideration the mode of display of a spectrum analyzer, it efficiently monitors and displays its output. It is most often used for observing the spectrum that originates from the source. With the help of this analyzer, fake and bogus signals can be monitored. These signals are inclusive of harmonic waves, intermodulation products, sound waves, and various other signals. It is most commonly practiced to witness whether the spectrum signals transmitted abide by the required levels or not.

Usage
Spectrum analyzers carry many other added benefits such as:

It makes it possible to measure the bandwidth of the modified signals which later can be used to analyze if the signals fall within the stipulated range or not.
Amongst so many uses of spectrum analyzers, another use is that these are also utilized to keep a check on the reverse transmission of the filters and networks.
The response of filters and networks can also be tested with the help of these analyzers.
Spectrum analyzers, along with a tracking generator are used to record the instant frequencies transmitted by the spectrum analyzer itself. It also records the loss at every level of frequency.
This helps in making a detailed analysis of the frequency response transmitted by the network.

How to set up the frequency in a satellite spectrum analyzer
Initially, when setting up a spectrum analyzer, it is required to set the frequency levels. It can be done by using the following ways:

Setting it to the center frequency level: If making use of this method, it will fix the frequency accustomed to the chosen value. The frequency will be based on the center of the scale. This also depends on the location of the signals that have to be monitored. Along with this, the adjacent locations can also be monitored with the help of center frequency.

Setting it to upper and lower frequency levels: Spectrum analyzers also come with the option of setting the frequency levels to upper or lower levels. This is basically used to set the start and stop frequencies.

There are diverse uses of a spectrum analyzer and if used properly, it can prove to be of great help in tracking and analyzing frequencies. If you are looking for a Satellite spectrum analyzer contact us or visit our website

Radio Frequency with its Different Bands

Have you heard about radio frequency? Radio frequency (RF) is a measurement that represents the electromagnetic radiation spectrum or electromagnetic radio waves rate which represents from the 300 GHz to 3 KHz. Most importantly, the RF field is used for wireless broadcasting and communication purposes. To check the strength of the signal RF spectrum analyzer is used. Importantly, RF spectrum analyzer is the most important electronic device for a radio frequency engineer. To offer the best and flawless network, the spectrum analyzer is used. In this blog, we have mentioned some of the important places where radio frequency with its different bands are used.

Aircraft navigation- As RF is categorized between different bands, for aircraft navigation, VHF (Very high frequency) are used. As aircrafts fly on 1500 ft and to communicate at such a high level you need a very high-frequency band.

Satellite systems- SHF (super high frequency) is in the range of 3 GHz to 30 GHz. It can only operate in a line of sight path since any obstruction in between the transmitter and receiving station will break the communication. In the case of satellite communication, SHF is required as it needs point to point communication and there is a great chance of loss of signals. In addition, the wavelength and the complexity both are short in case of SHF.

Marine radio- In marine radio VLF is used that range from 3 kHz to 30 KHz. The design and installation of the antenna system are quite complex due to the wavelength. It is used in submarines, radio station that synchronizes clock signals between two remote locations.

Mobile networks- Low frequency (LF) has a range from 30 KHz to 300 KHz used for mobile networks. LF is easily reflected by the ionosphere present above the earth. This can be easily used for long distances communication purposes. It gets less attenuated from the large and harsh terrains such as mountains. It is also known as ground waves.

Some Basic Components of Electronic Communications System

In the electronic communication, transmission, reception, and processing of different signals that carry information or data are included. The communication is between one or more locations around the globe. Some of the basic components required for a successful electronic communication are- transmitter, channel or medium through which the information travels, receiver, RF spectrum analyzer, and, noise.

In the communication system, the input signal (that can be a human voice or an information signal) also known as an analog signal or digital signal acts as the input signals. These input signals are fed in the transmitter. It is important to add here that the information in the input is signal is transmitted in the coded form. The system is said to be reliable and effective when errors are minimized in the process.

Transmitter- As discussed above, a transmitter is the collection of the various number of electronic devices that converts the original signal (baseband signal) into the encoded form. For example, the transmitted signal is passed through the radio transmitter that accepts the information signal and converts it into radio frequency signal. Radio signals are required if the communication or transmission is done to cover the long distance. To check the performance and the strength of the signal, RF spectrum analyzers are required. It shows the strength as well as the noise level of the signal. The signal always travels on a specific frequency. To broadcast a signal either the analog or digital modulations are used.

Communications channel- The channel is the medium through which the signals can be sent from one place to another. The channel can be a copper wire, fiber optics or satellite systems. The channels can be a radio wave and a free space also. It all depends on the nature of the modulation and frequency which is used while communication.

Receiver-
The receiver works similarly to the transmitter. The receiver also includes a lot of different transmission mediums and then converts those signals or decode them into the original form. Sometimes the signal gets corrupted or attenuated by certain noise signals, but the receiver removes the attenuation up to some extent. Introduction to satellite communication - AVCOM

Satellites are the backbone of our wireless communication system. Without them, it's impossible to have long distance communication. There are different types of the satellites which help us in information transfer and communication purposes. Satellite communication, also known as SATCOM require extreme accuracy and reliability as they are the only source of communication for some sectors, such as military, aircraft communication, space crafts and other governmental sectors.

The working and performance of the SATCOM must be continuous and uninterrupted as the environmental factor is one of the major reasons that affect communication of satellite. It helps in sending and receiving the signals between geostationary satellite satellites and antennas installed on earth. They are used to amplify the signals before sending them to the receiver part and relay the signals back to the earth. Satellite is the only option that you can use to cover far distances and wider areas as it uses radio waves and microwaves for communication.

Due to rise in cross-polarization interference, illegal signals that enter into the transmitted signals while transmission, increase the demand for the detection of these interferences. This has increased the need for Satellite Spectrum Analyzer, as they are used to analyze the signals and their working.

Some of the other challenges that are seen during the transmission of the signals are ionospheric scintillation. The ions affect the transmission of the signals that result in the degradation of the transmitted signal. The troposphere in the atmosphere can also cause transmission problems. To deal with such problems the communication equipment and devices are manufactured in such a way that they overcome the above-mentioned problems easily.

So, it is very important to install the devices which have the ability to communicate point to point links, high speed, a communication system that can be effective for both defense and commercial use. If you want to buy sound and tap-proof satellite spectrum analyzers, contact- Avcom.

Why is Remote Spectrum Monitoring Important?

Due to increasing demand for a robust wireless communication system, the demand for analyzing signal transmitted or receiving is increasing. As there are many instruments and various types of equipment which are required to complete the communication part. The interference continuously grows which ultimately decreases the quality as well as the efficiency of the network. Some of the illegal and unlicensed signals may degrade the signal. Finding them or not to enter into the already transmitted signals or removal of these signals is a challenge. To filter the transmitted or receiving signals, remote spectrum monitoring is required.

The systems used to monitor spectrum helps in the identification of unlicensed and illegal signals which create interference in the other signals. In addition to that, these monitoring systems are used to remove them and patterns of these illegals systems can be detected which identify the location of the signals and location of the source which produce such signals.

Not only in wireless network providers but there are certain other departments where such remote monitoring systems are required. Defense is one of the main and important departments which always want to sure its own system as well as limit the entry of illegal or unlicensed signals. Since the data and information is the top priority for the defense. They need to check the intruder signals which may corrupt the signal and even the whole data system. Monitoring these frequency bands gives the information required to optimize spectrum for maximum utilization. By using techniques such as- cognitive radio, the spectrum can be reused for other purposes and can be blend with the signals.

Some of the other important departments are- police, firefighters, air traffic control, navel, and during emergency services. All these have access to communicate free of restrictions and distortion. Various agreement with spectrum providers is often required by spectrum monitoring. They are mainly required near the border areas to check the movement of the neighboring country or to stop the illegal migration of people as well as the illegal exchange of goods.

To secure the end to end information remote spectrum monitoring is required. To know more, visit- Avcom of Virginia

History of Spectrum analyzers- In the mid 19th century,  the idea of spectrum analyzer was just like a fiction made by the science. People think this as a fiction since invention and discovery of electric and magnetic waves. After that in 1865, James Clerk Maxwell gives the idea and full flashed theory of Electromagnetic Field. This theory explains correctly and detailed idea of the behavior of natural electrical and magnetic waves that are moving through the airwaves at the speed of light and regarding radio waves. To measure these radio frequencies, RF spectrum analyzers came into existence.

The theory described by the Maxwell was a giant superhighway that was in the sky, but there was no practical evidence. But in 1885, a famous scientist named Heinrich Hertz give proved that it's possible to send or receive electrical waves wirelessly. This is the reason the frequency unit of measure was named after him.

To measure those received and transmitted signals, oscillator was developed to track the signals. One was that can only measure the signal voltage in the time domain by visually plotting the waves on a small CRT display. This electronic device was excellent but there was a need for strong and more innovative ideas to continue the technological evolution. The spectrum analyzer was developed in early 1960's. The spectrum analyzer was introduced before more than 50 years and the technology, functionality, and applications of spectrum analyzer have continued to improve.

Nowadays, the usage of Wi-Fi and the cell phone has been increased, so there is always a need for accurate and sound quality of service. As in telecommunication, spectrum analyzers are used to determine the spectrum of the signals and frequency utilization, and interference issues in a specific region.
